About Arctic Fire Pinks

Dianthus deltoides 'Arctic Fire' is a compact evergreen maiden pink with white, fringed flowers marked by a pink center and red eye. Its low, spreading foliage makes it useful along a sunny path, in a rock garden, or at the front of a well-drained border. ### Flowers and foliage The flowers open from late spring into summer, with some sources noting a light continuation into late summer. Narrow green leaves form a loose mat and remain through winter. The flowers are lightly clove-scented and attract pollinators. ### Siting and care Give this selection full sun and sharply drained soil; loam, sand, or chalk are suitable when water can drain away. It reaches about 6–8 inches tall and spreads roughly 12–24 inches. Space plants to let the mat fill in, and remove faded flowers to encourage continued bloom. It tolerates dry conditions once established, but avoid waterlogged soil. Keep the crown in well-drained soil, and shear lightly after the first flush if a tidier mat or later flowers are desired.
