About Bath's™ Cheddar Pink

‘Bath’s Pink’ is a fragrant, mat-forming cheddar pink with fine blue-green foliage and soft pink flowers marked by a darker ring. It is useful close to paths and patios, where the spring fragrance can be enjoyed. ## Flowers and size The [University of Wisconsin–Madison Extension profile](https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/dianthus-baths-pink/) describes heavy mid- to late-spring flowering, 6–8-inch foliage mats, flower stems up to 10 inches, and 24–30-inch spread. It notes occasional summer rebloom after shearing. The [Missouri Botanical Garden Plant Finder](https://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?chr=25&isprofile=0&pt=8&taxonid=243638) gives a competing smaller mature range, about 9–12 inches high and 6–12 inches wide; the display labels reflect both published size accounts. ## Siting Grow in full sun and well-drained, slightly alkaline soil. Wet winter or early-spring soil can cause root rot. The plant tolerates heat and some drought, and evergreen foliage persists in mild-winter climates. ## Maintenance Shear after the main spring bloom to tidy the mat and prompt occasional repeat flowers. Divide every few years or when the center declines; early spring is the preferred time.
