About Tiny Rubies™ Cheddar Pink

Dianthus gratianopolitanus 'Tiny Rubies' makes a low mat of evergreen, blue-green, grasslike leaves. Fragrant double rose-pink flowers rise above the cushion in summer, bringing color and scent to small spaces. ## Size and garden use This compact cheddar pink suits rock gardens, path edging, and containers. [Little Prince Nursery's cultivar listing](https://littleprinceplants.com/our-plants/plant-solutions/water-misers/dianthus-gratianopolitanus-tiny-rubies/) gives an approximate mature size of 4 inches tall by 18 inches wide and zones 4–9; the [Royal Horticultural Society profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/63896/dianthus-gratianopolitanus-tiny-rubies-p/details) describes the selection as mat-forming, up to 10 cm tall, and summer flowering. ## Growing conditions Grow in full sun in cool, well-drained soil. The RHS lists chalk, loam, and sand, with neutral to alkaline soil reaction; good drainage matters more than rich soil. Place it near a path or seating area to enjoy the clove-like scent. ## Maintenance Remove faded flowers to encourage another display and keep the mat neat. Divide established clumps every few years if the center becomes thin.
