About SCENT FIRST™ Sugar Plum Pinks

Scent First® Sugar Plum, breeder code WP08 IAN04, is a compact dianthus with ruffled, semi-double flowers blending maroon, pink, and white around a raspberry-colored eye. The blue-gray mound carries spicy fragrance and brings color from late spring into early fall in sunny planting areas. ## Form and flowering This selection is also sold as Dianthus hybrida Sugar Plum and carries patent number PP21398. Its narrow, grassy foliage forms a low cushion; flowering stems rise above it with frilly blooms. Published mature sizes vary slightly, from 6–10 inches tall and 10–12 inches wide to around 11 inches in each direction. Allow a little room around the plant for airflow and for the mound to fill. ## Site and soil Plant in full sun and sharply drained soil. Sources describe dry to average moisture and sandy or ordinary garden soil; avoid a persistently wet crown. It is suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, containers, and edging where its flower detail and scent can be enjoyed. The documented hardiness range is USDA zones 5–9. ## Maintenance Trim spent stems lightly after the main flush to keep the cushion compact and encourage repeat flowers. Remove dead foliage as needed, but retain healthy evergreen leaves through winter.
