About Diabunda® Red Dianthus

Diabunda® Red is the red-flowered selection in Syngenta’s compact F1 Diabunda® Sweet William series. It grows with a mounding, upright habit to about 8–10 inches high and wide, with flowering listed from mid-spring into fall. ## Garden Use Place this compact annual at the front of a border, in seasonal bedding, or in patio pots for a concentrated block of red color. Syngenta describes the Diabunda series as uniform in habit and timing, with flowering that is faster than traditional Dianthus barbatus. The [breeder’s Red product listing](https://www.syngentaflowers.com/ams/product/flower/70019212) gives the exact selection’s color, size, exposure, and flowering period. ## Growing Conditions Grow in full sun and well-drained soil. The [Royal Horticultural Society’s species profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/105495/dianthus-barbatus/details) recommends a neutral to slightly acidic soil in full sun; in hotter climates, partial afternoon shade may be helpful. The [Syngenta culture guide](https://www.syngentaflowers.com/ams/sites/g/files/kgtney2381/files/file_field/import/field_media_link/sites/g/files/zhg721/f/dianthus_1.pdf) provides additional production guidance for container-grown Dianthus. ## Maintenance Deadhead faded flowers to keep the compact plant neat. Water when the soil or potting mix starts to dry, and avoid waterlogged conditions.
