About Fruit Punch® 'Maraschino' Dianthus

Fruit Punch® ‘Maraschino’ is a compact, evergreen pink with double cherry-red flowers, a dark burgundy eye, deeply fringed petals, and a sweet fragrance. Silvery blue foliage keeps the clump attractive between flushes, while the early-summer flowers bring a vivid accent to the front of a sunny border or a container. ## Placement and seasonal display Set this dianthus in full sun or light part shade and use loose, well-drained soil; neutral to slightly alkaline ground suits the genus. Walters Gardens lists mature size at 9–11 inches tall and 12–14 inches wide, with hardiness in USDA Zones 4–9. The first flush appears in early summer, and the breeder notes that a quick shear after flowering can encourage an early-fall rebloom. Its compact scale also suits edging and cut-flower use. Remove spent flower stems or shear lightly after the first flush to tidy the clump and support rebloom. In fall, clear away declining foliage and keep winter mulch loose around the crown so it remains protected without staying wet.
