Dicentra is a genus of herbaceous perennials celebrated for their unique heart-shaped flowers and delicate, fern-like foliage. These plants typically exhibit a mounded growth habit, reaching about one foot in height and width. They thrive in cool, moist, well-drained soils and are perfect for shade or woodland gardens. Often used in borders or understory plantings, they provide early-season color and charm. While beautiful, all parts are toxic if ingested, and the sap may cause skin irritation. They are also deer resistant.
