Create design onlineAbout Weeping Blue Ginger Plant
Weeping blue ginger is a tropical perennial with arching stems and clusters of small blue flowers. The [NC State Extension Plant Toolbox](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/dichorisandra-penduliflora/) identifies the species as Dichorisandra penduliflora and describes it as a container or houseplant native to northeast Brazil.
## Flowers and siting
NC State lists a mature height of 2–4 feet and width of 1–2 feet, with flowers reported through the year. The flowers attract bees. Grow in full sun with afternoon shade, partial shade, or dappled shade; a bright sheltered patio or indoor position provides a useful setting outside warm climates.
## Soil and climate
The plant prefers moist, well-drained loamy soil and is not frost tolerant. NC State lists USDA zones 9–11. In colder areas, use a movable container and bring it into protection before temperatures fall to freezing.
## Maintenance
Keep the root zone evenly moist without leaving the pot waterlogged. Inspect leaves for spider mites, mealybugs, aphids, whiteflies, scale, and thrips, which NC State lists as possible problems. Divide mature clumps or take stem cuttings to propagate.
