First Editions® Cool Splash® is a variegated selection of southern bush honeysuckle, Diervilla sessilifolia ‘LPDC Podaras’, with a compact, mounded habit. Creamy white leaf margins frame green centers, and clusters of yellow flowers appear in June and July.
## Landscape Use
Plan for a shrub roughly 2½–4½ feet tall and wide, then give it room to form a broader colony as underground suckers develop. It works in a mixed border or grouped planting; the foliage pattern keeps the shrub useful after its flowers have faded.
## Growing Conditions
Cool Splash® is hardy in USDA zones 4–7 and grows in full sun to part shade. It tolerates a range of soils, but avoid letting the root zone become bone dry; even moisture and good drainage support steady growth. Its yellow flowers attract butterflies.
## Maintenance
Water regularly while the plant establishes, then check the soil during dry spells. Prune in early spring to shape the mound or remove damaged branches, and thin suckers if the planting needs a defined edge.
