About Nightglow® Bush Honeysuckle

Nightglow® is a compact, deciduous bush honeysuckle, 2–3 feet tall and wide, with dark red foliage and glowing yellow flowers in late spring. Its foliage deepens in color as the season progresses, while slow, non-invasive suckering can gradually broaden the plant. ## Landscape Use Use Nightglow® near the front or middle of a shrub border, in a small foundation planting, or in a group where its flower and foliage contrast can repeat. Allow about three feet between plants when a continuous mass is desired, and leave room for its slow outward spread. ## Growing Conditions This selection is hardy in USDA zones 3–8 and performs best in full sun. Its late-spring flowers bring pollinators, and the dark foliage adds color through summer into fall. The name bush honeysuckle can be confusing: Diervilla is a different genus from Lonicera, the invasive vine sometimes called honeysuckle. ## Maintenance Water consistently after planting while roots establish, then check the soil during extended dry periods. Remove damaged branches and thin any suckers that move beyond the intended planting area. [Bloomin’ Easy](https://bloomineasyplants.com/plant/diervilla-nightglow/) lists the identity, size, hardiness, exposure, bloom time, and suckering habit; [Missouri Botanical Garden](https://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=445914) describes its flowers, fall color, mature form, and landscape uses.
