Illumination Flame is the trade selection DG09-4 of *Digitalis × valinii*, an upright foxglove hybrid with a long flowering display. Its reddish-magenta to dark-pink flowers have apricot, orange, and yellow details in the throat, and the sterile flowers do not set seed.
## Flowering and form
The RHS records flowering from summer into autumn, dark-green basal foliage, and a semi-evergreen habit. Its mature size range is 0.5–1 m tall and 0.1–0.5 m wide, so allow for variation between growing conditions. The [RHS selection profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/339206/digitalis-%C3%97-valinii-illumination-flame/details) describes the plant and its flowering season. The exact denomination DG09-4 and its dark-pink, apricot-tinged flowers and sterility are documented by the [Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s cultivar record](https://active.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/pbrpov/cropreport/fox/app00009305e.shtml).
## Site
Grow in full sun or partial shade. Keep the soil moist but well drained, avoiding waterlogging and prolonged dryness. [Thompson & Morgan’s plant profile](https://www.thompson-morgan.com/p/foxglove-illumination-flame/TKA1688TM) lists the selection as a half-hardy perennial and provides a complementary garden description.
## Maintenance
Cut back the main flower spike as it fades to encourage flowering side shoots. Foxgloves are poisonous if eaten; wear gloves when handling the plant and seeds, and keep them away from children and pets.
