About Giant Fuyu Persimmon Tree

‘Giant Fuyu’ is a named Japanese persimmon selection with medium vigor and fruit slightly larger than many persimmons. It is grown as a homeowner fruit tree, with orange fruit ripening in fall and foliage that colors in autumn. ## Size and siting A mature tree reaches about 12–15 feet tall and 8–10 feet wide, and it grows in USDA hardiness zones 7a–9b. Plant in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil; loam is suitable. Established trees tolerate drought, heat, and humidity. Allow it to develop full orange color before eating. The fruit is sweet and nonastringent, ripens in fall, and can be eaten fresh or used in baking. The tree fits an edible or Asian garden, lawn, meadow, or naturalized area. Remove root suckers unless a naturalized effect is desired, and plan for cleanup where fallen fruit could be messy.
