About Persimmon Tree

Diospyros is a large genus of shrubs and trees found across tropical regions and into temperate climates. Its members include persimmons cultivated for edible fruit and species valued for ebony timber, so their size, climate tolerance, and garden uses differ widely. ## Botanical range About 730 species are recognized, mostly tropical but with some extending into temperate regions. Fruits are fleshy berries; some species—especially Asian persimmon (D. kaki)—are cultivated for persimmon or Sharon fruit. Other members supply ebony timber. Fruit-bearing kinds can serve in edible landscapes, while other Diospyros have different horticultural or timber roles. Confirm the species and the fruit's edibility before planting or harvesting. Follow regional guidance for the species being grown and allow young trees space to establish before judging mature size.
