About Braided Madagascar Dragon Tree

The braided Madagascar dragon tree is a trained form of Dracaena marginata, an evergreen tropical plant with slender canes and narrow red-edged leaves. The braided trunk creates a sculptural container specimen. [UF/IFAS](https://gardeningsolutions.ifas.ufl.edu/plants/houseplants/dracaena-marginata/) describes the species; [The Sill](https://www.thesill.com/products/dracaena-marginata-braided) lists the braided form in shipped heights of 3–7 ft. ## Landscape Use Display it indoors near a bright window or in filtered light. It tolerates lower indoor light, though growth can slow. It is native to Madagascar and may reach tree size outdoors in frost-free climates; shipped indoor heights reflect nursery culture rather than its outdoor maximum. ## Growing Conditions Use free-draining potting mix and a container with drainage. Water thoroughly, then allow soil to dry somewhat before watering again; adjust timing to light and room conditions. Filtered water can help prevent brown leaf tips where tap water contains fluoride or salts. UF/IFAS lists zones 10B–11 outdoors. ## Maintenance Expect older lower leaves to drop naturally as the plant grows. Remove dry leaves and prune a cane with clean tools if it becomes too tall; new shoots can form below the cut. Keep braided stems supported and avoid forcing them tighter as they thicken.
