Dwarf Holly Fern

Cyrtomium fortunei, known as the Japanese holly fern, is a hardy evergreen perennial that adds texture to shaded landscapes. It grows in an upright, vase-shaped clumping habit reaching heights of twelve to twenty-four inches. The stiff, dull green fronds feature leathery, sickle-shaped pinnae that resemble holly branches. This low-maintenance fern thrives in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soils within part to full shade. It is an ideal choice for woodland gardens or shaded borders, offering resistance to deer and rabbits.
