Dypsis coursii is a solitary palm from northeastern Madagascar, known from the Marojejy area and associated montane forests. Its short, broad trunk and grouped leaflets distinguish it from many other palms in the genus.
## Form and habitat
The species reaches about 2–8 m tall and carries a small crown of roughly four leaves. Its leaflets sit in separated groups along the leaf axis, and its large fruits are distinctive. The [Kew Plants of the World Online record](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:985371-1) accepts the name and places the species in Madagascar’s wet tropical biome. The botanical account in [Palms of Madagascar](https://palmpedia.net/wiki/books/16_Palms_of_Madagascar.pdf) describes moist montane or dense sclerophyll forest on rocky ridges at roughly 900–1,850 m.
## Garden use
Its modest, solitary form is best appreciated in a specialist tropical palm collection or conservatory with room for a mature trunk and broad foliage. It is not suited to dry-garden conditions.
## Maintenance
Maintain warm, humid air and regular root-zone moisture to reflect its native moist montane habitat. Shelter it from cold and drying exposure.
