Dypsis culminis is a small clustering palm endemic to a limited forest area in southeastern Madagascar. It grows as an understory plant on higher slopes and ridges, where humid conditions and sheltered terrain shape its compact form.
## Form and habitat
The species forms clusters of four to eight slender stems and reaches about 3 m tall. Its stems are brown with scattered reddish-brown hairs near the upper portions. It is known from Vondrozo forest, where it has been recorded in lowland humid forest on slopes and ridge crests at about 600 m. The [Palm Grower’s Guide species account](https://palmpedia.net/wiki/Dypsis_culminis) reproduces the botanical description by Rakotoarinivo and Dransfield; [Kew’s Dypsis genus record](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:31225-1) includes the species within the accepted genus.
## Garden use
Its slender clustered stems and small stature make it suited to a warm tropical conservatory or specialist palm collection, where it can be viewed as an understory palm.
## Maintenance
Provide shelter, humid air, and regular moisture in cultivation, reflecting its humid forest habitat. The cited palm grower guide reports cold hardiness zone 10a; protect it from frost and prolonged dry conditions.
