About Triangle Palm

Chrysalidocarpus decaryi, widely known in horticulture as the triangle palm, is a solitary palm from southeastern Madagascar. Three rows of fronds rise around the trunk in distinct planes, creating the triangular crown that gives the plant its common name. ## Form and flowering Mature plants can reach about 25–35 ft tall with a crown spread near 15 ft. The blue-green, feather-like fronds may reach 10 ft long, and small light-yellow flowers appear on branching stalks near the lower leaves in spring. [Kew’s Plants of the World Online](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:77314602-1/general-information) accepts Chrysalidocarpus decaryi and lists Dypsis decaryi as a synonym; [UF/IFAS Extension](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/FR302) describes the triangular crown and landscape performance. ## Landscape use Use it as a specimen or accent palm where its architectural crown has room to develop. It is slow-growing and suited to warm climates; it can also tolerate partial shade, though full sun produces the best growth. ## Maintenance Water regularly, especially while establishing, and use nutrient-rich soil for steady growth even though the species tolerates poor, dry sites. Watch older foliage for yellowing associated with potassium deficiency, and fertilize as needed. Protect it from cold conditions beyond the climates where it is reliably grown.
