About Ivovowo Palm

Chrysalidocarpus lanceolatus, still widely known by the synonym Dypsis lanceolata, is the Comorian palm sold as Ivovowo Palm. It usually forms a small cluster of slender, ringed stems beneath glossy, arching, feather-shaped leaves. [Kew](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:665960-1) recognizes the current botanical name, and the [Palm Beach Palm and Cycad Society](https://www.palmbeachpalmcycadsociety.com/palms/documents/DypsisLanceolata.pdf) reports stems around 15–18 ft tall. ## Form and landscape use Broad, slightly puckered leaflets and green stems with pale rings make this palm distinctive in a tropical planting. Its moderate stature suits a sheltered specimen or foundation planting where several stems can develop without crowding. The palm is usually clustering, though individual plants can remain solitary. ## Growing conditions Give it full sun to partial shade and a rich, well-drained soil. The Palm Beach account describes success in humid conditions and sandy soil; a specialist grower recommends regular water during the growing season and notes that the palm remains evergreen. Protect it from frost and drying winds, especially while establishing. ## Maintenance Water regularly in warm weather and allow surface drainage after heavy rain. Remove dead stems at the base when they no longer produce growth, taking care not to damage neighboring shoots. Leave healthy leaflets intact so the crown keeps its full arching form.
