Lucuba palm is a Madagascar native that may grow as a solitary palm or in a small cluster, with a ringed trunk and a crown of long, feather-like leaves. It is used as an ornamental in tropical landscapes and can also be grown indoors while young. [NParks Flora & Fauna Web](https://www.nparks.gov.sg/florafaunaweb/flora/2/6/2623) records its full-sun, moderate-water preference, while [PROTA](https://plantuse.plantnet.org/en/Dypsis_madagascariensis_(PROTA)) documents its range in northern and western Madagascar and growth up to 18 m; Kew accepts *Chrysalidocarpus madagascariensis* and treats *Dypsis madagascariensis* as a synonym.
## Landscape Use
Plant it as a warm-climate specimen or in a spacious tropical bed where the crown can spread. The species varies between solitary and clustering forms, so leave room for more than one trunk and for the long arching leaves.
## Growing Conditions
NParks lists full sun and moderate water. In cultivation, use a position with good light and keep moisture steady while allowing excess water to drain; its native habitats include both moist rainforest and drier forest, so avoid treating it as a bog plant.
## Seasonal Interest
The mature palm carries a full crown of pinnate leaves above a prominently ringed trunk. Its size and canopy give year-round structure in frost-free landscapes.
## Maintenance
Water during dry spells, especially while a young palm is establishing, and keep the root zone drained. Remove only dead or damaged leaves, taking care not to cut into the growing crown.
