Dypsis marojejyi, also called Madagascar Foxtail Palm, is a solitary palm endemic to Madagascar’s Marojejy massif. Its grouped featherlike leaves and reddish leaf bases give it a distinctive, compact outline among rainforest palms.
## Habitat and Form
The botanical account describes a 3–6 m trunk and a crown with leaf bases that can hold litter; the species grows in submontane rainforest around 700–1,100 m. A horticultural reference estimates about 10 ft tall with a 6–8 ft spread, reports slow growth, and rates its cold hardiness at zone 10a. These are different kinds of size guidance, so the displayed mature range reflects the broader habitat description. See the [Palmpedia botanical profile](https://palmpedia.net/wiki/Dypsis_marojejyi), [Palms for California](https://www.palmpedia.net/palmsforcal/Dypsis_marojejyi), and [Plants of the World Online](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:985373-1).
## Siting
Provide filtered light or partial shade, especially in hot, dry settings; the California palm reference reports that established plants may take more sun in coastal climates. Keep the root zone evenly moist and protect from frost and strong drying winds. Published cultivation experience is limited, and reports differ on the plant’s availability, so treat it as a specialist palm rather than a routine landscape choice.
## Maintenance
The palm grows slowly and has a single growing point. Protect the crown, remove only fully dead leaves, and avoid allowing standing water around the roots. The horticultural source reports low drought tolerance, so do not let the root zone dry for extended periods.
