About Dypsis nauseosa

Dypsis nauseosa is a solitary palm native to Madagascar. It develops a tall, straight trunk and a crown of long pinnate leaves, so it needs substantial overhead and root space when grown in a suitable tropical collection. ## Habitat and Form The Madagascar palm field guide records a tree up to about 15 m tall in eastern forest, possibly in somewhat drier sites, at roughly 50–200 m elevation. Kew’s current backbone treats the name Dypsis nauseosa as a synonym of Chrysalidocarpus nauseosus; the older name remains useful when comparing horticultural and field references. See the [field guide profile](https://palmpedia.net/wiki/books/12_Field_Guide_to_the_Palms_of_Madagascar_English.pdf) and [Kew’s taxonomic record](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:985335-1). ## Siting Allow room for a tall palm and its broad crown. The habitat record does not establish garden drought tolerance or a USDA hardiness range, so protect the plant from cold and drying conditions until local cultivation experience supports a more specific placement. ## Maintenance Keep the growing point intact and remove only fully dead leaves. Avoid climbing or cutting into the trunk; mature palms are tall and should be maintained by a qualified palm-care professional where access is needed.
