Create design onlineAbout Raosy Palm
The Raosy Palm is a small, clustering Madagascan palm with thin stems and compact, feather-shaped leaves. Kew accepts the botanical name *Dypsis scottiana*; the epithet and the catalog’s Raosy Palm identity match the same species. [Kew Plants of the World Online](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:985376-1) and the [Palms Conservation Action Plan](https://madagascar.co.uk/application/files/9317/3388/8294/Palms_-_Conservation_Action_Plan_PDF.pdf) describe its southeastern Madagascan range and clumping habit.
## Form and siting
Plants form tufts of roughly 3–16 slender stems. Recorded stem heights reach about 2–4 m (6–13 ft.), while spread depends on how the clump develops. The species occurs in coastal white-sand habitat and lowland rainforest, including both forest edges and moister interiors, so use a sheltered position with room for basal shoots.
## Growing conditions
Species-specific cultivation guidance is limited. Its varied native microhabitats support a practical approach of evenly moist, freely draining soil and filtered light to brighter exposure as conditions allow; avoid assuming it needs either deep shade or exposed coastal conditions everywhere.
## Maintenance
Remove dead leaves and thin crowded basal shoots only when needed to preserve access or the intended clump size. The species is listed as vulnerable in its native range, so choose nursery-propagated stock and do not collect wild plants or seed.
