About Beragoka Palm

The Beragoka Palm is a large, solitary evergreen palm with upright feather leaves that arch or droop at their tips. Kew accepts *Chrysalidocarpus tsaravoasira* and lists *Dypsis tsaravoasira* as its synonym; an older USDA plant list pairs that same species name with “Beragoka Palm.” [Kew Plants of the World Online](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:77314660-1) and the [USDA RMA plant list](https://legacy.rma.usda.gov/tools/eplpps/2011/azbk2011.pdf) support the identity. ## Form and scale This is a substantial canopy palm, reported at about 10–25 m (33–82 ft.) tall. Its range is northeastern Madagascar, where it grows in humid rainforest; allow generous space for a tall trunk and crown. Regional sources record tsaravoasira, hovotravavy, lavaboko, and ovotaitso as local names ([CITES Plant Committee document](https://cites.org/sites/default/files/common/com/pc/20/inf_docs/F20-11i-A6.pdf)). ## Growing conditions Use a warm, humid position with consistent moisture and good drainage. Its rainforest origin supports those broad conditions, though detailed garden-culture information is limited. Do not infer a frost rating from tropical habitat alone. ## Maintenance Give the crown room and remove only completely dead fronds. The species is considered vulnerable, and wild harvesting for palm hearts and seed has been reported; select nursery-propagated stock and avoid collecting from natural populations.
