Echeveria ‘Black Prince’ forms an evergreen rosette of fleshy, pointed leaves that can appear very dark purple. In early summer, arching stems rise above the leaves with small orange-and-pink urn-shaped flowers.
## Garden use
The rosette makes a compact focal plant for a patio pot, gravel garden, or sheltered succulent display. The Royal Horticultural Society lists it for containers, gravel gardens, and conservatories, and describes mature rosettes up to about 15 cm across. Color and compact form are easiest to appreciate where the plant receives strong light.
## Light, soil, and water
The RHS profile gives full sun and loam or sandy soil, while its cultivation notes recommend bright filtered light under glass. Use a gritty, sharply draining cactus mix in a pot with drainage holes. Water moderately while it is actively growing, let excess water drain away, and keep the mix almost dry in winter. The RHS genus guide also advises bringing echeverias indoors before frost.
## Maintenance
No routine pruning is required. Remove dry lower leaves carefully and keep water from sitting in the rosette; offsets can be separated for propagation.
