About Echeveria pulvinata Red Velvet® Echeveria

Red Velvet® is an Echeveria pulvinata selection with soft, velvety leaves and bright red-burgundy tips that show most strongly in high light. Syngenta describes its plant form as mounded and lists petite red-to-orange flowers with yellow tips from early spring through summer. ## Garden use The grower recommends Red Velvet® for indoor succulent programs as well as outdoor gardens in temperate to warm climates. Its compact mound and warm leaf and flower colors suit a container or a sheltered succulent display. Syngenta lists a mature garden size of 6–8 inches wide by 8–10 inches high. ## Light, soil, and water Give the plant bright light so the burgundy leaf tips remain pronounced. Grow it in a gritty, fast-draining succulent mix and use a container with drainage holes. Water when the mix has dried, allowing excess water to drain; reduce watering during cool winter conditions. Echeverias are not frost-hardy, so bring container plants indoors before freezing weather. ## Maintenance Remove dry lower leaves as needed and avoid water standing in the rosette.
