About Echeveria Coral Reef® Chocolate

Coral Reef® Chocolate is a compact foliage succulent with chocolate-brown leaves edged in fiery red. Its thick, strongly ruffled rosette makes the Coral Reef® series a sculptural accent in a small pot. ## Form and siting Green Fuse describes Coral Reef® as a series of Echeveria hybrids with strongly ruffled foliage and markets it for indoor and outdoor seasonal displays, succulent combinations, and rock gardens. Choose a bright, protected position; treat it as a frost-sensitive container plant and bring it under cover before cold weather. ## Growing conditions Use a gritty, very well-drained mix and a container with drainage holes. Green Fuse’s culture sheet recommends a sand-and-perlite medium, light watering, and letting the mix dry completely between irrigations; it cautions against excess water in cool, cloudy weather. The nursery also describes Chocolate as slow growing and advises gentle handling because the fleshy leaves mark easily. Selection details are in the [Green Fuse Coral Reef® series profile](https://green-fuse.com/new/echeveria-coral-reef/) and its [current culture sheet](https://green-fuse.com/new/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Echeveria-Coral-Reef%C2%AE.pdf). For general genus care, see the [RHS Echeveria guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/echeveria). The [Chocolate profile from Horlings Plants](https://horlingsplants.ca/products/succulent-echeveria-coral-reef-chocolate) lists a 10-inch height and 12-inch spread, sun to some shade, and use in small containers or rock gardens. ## Maintenance Water sparingly, then allow the potting mix to dry fully before watering again. Reduce winter irrigation, keep the rosette dry in cool weather, and protect it from frost. Inspect occasionally for aphids, scale, and mealybugs; handle the powdery leaf coating gently when repotting.
