About BUTTERFLY™ Golden Skipper Yellow Coneflower

BUTTERFLY™ Golden Skipper is a compact, upright coneflower with single lemon-yellow rays around orange cones. It brings butterfly-attracting color to sunny borders and containers from early summer into fall. ## Size and placement The breeder lists plants at about 18 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide, while the Chicago Botanic Garden reports USDA Zones 4–9 and an upright habit. Give it full sun and moist, well-drained soil; the breeder notes drought tolerance after establishment. [AB Cultivars](https://www.ab-cultivars.com/?portfolio=echinacea-golden-skipper) and the [Chicago Botanic Garden](https://www.chicagobotanic.org/plant-information/plant-finder/echinacea-golden-skipper-golden-skipper-coneflower) document its size, color, bloom, and garden uses. ## Bloom and garden use Single lemon-yellow flowers with orange centers open from June into September according to the breeder; the Botanic Garden records additional bloom in May–June and September–October. Use it near a path, at the front of a sunny border, or in a mixed planter, where its flowers can draw butterflies. The RHS lists the selected plant under the code ‘Echgol243’ in the Butterfly Series. ## Maintenance Grow in a sunny, well-drained site and keep the soil evenly moist while the plant establishes. Once established, it tolerates dry periods; water during prolonged drought.
