Create design onlineAbout BUTTERFLY™ 'Julia' Coneflower
Butterfly™ ‘Julia’ is a compact coneflower with sturdy stems and single tangerine-orange flowers around a copper-colored cone. The blooms can shift toward pink as they age, creating a warm, changing display in a sunny border or cutting garden.
## Landscape Use
Place it near the front or middle of a sunny perennial border, group it for a bright mass, or use it in a container. The breeder lists borders, small gardens, wildlife gardens, and cutting gardens among its uses.
## Growing Conditions
Grow in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. The compact habit suits smaller gardens, and the source size is about 15–18 inches tall by 18–24 inches wide.
## Seasonal Interest
The breeder reports flowering from early to mid-June for about 8–12 weeks. Its orange petals deepen or soften toward pink as the flowers mature.
## Maintenance
Water during establishment and during extended dry spells. Remove spent flowers for a tidier display, or leave seedheads standing into winter for birds before cutting stems back in late winter. [AB Cultivars](https://www.ab-cultivars.com/?portfolio=echinacea-julia) describes the selection, size, bloom period, light, and uses; the [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/345324/echinacea-julia-butterfly-series/details) also describes its compact habit and orange flowers. [Illinois Extension](https://extension.illinois.edu/flowers/purple-coneflower) describes how deadheading can extend coneflower bloom and retained seedheads can feed birds.
