About BUTTERFLY™ 'Orange Skipper' Orange Coneflower

Butterfly™ ‘Orange Skipper’ is a compact coneflower with sturdy stems and single neon-tangerine flowers. The breeder describes a well-branched plant suited to borders, mixed containers, and cutting or butterfly gardens. ## Landscape Use Use it in sunny borders, small groups, containers, or a cutting bed. Its upright stems hold the bright flowers above a leafy base, and the blooms provide a landing place for visiting butterflies. ## Growing Conditions Grow in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. The breeder lists an approximate mature size of 15–18 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide. ## Seasonal Interest The breeder lists bloom from July through September, carrying orange color from midsummer toward autumn. The selected flowers are single and neon-tangerine in tone. ## Maintenance Water regularly as the plant establishes, then adjust irrigation to local soil and weather. Remove faded heads for a cleaner look or leave some seedheads for birds. Cut old stems back in late winter or early spring. [AB Cultivars](https://www.ab-cultivars.com/?portfolio=echinacea-orange-skipper) provides the selection’s size, bloom time, flower color, soil, light, and uses; the [Butterfly™ series page](https://www.ab-cultivars.com/assortment/echinacea/echinacea-butterfly-serie/) confirms its series placement. [Illinois Extension](https://extension.illinois.edu/flowers/purple-coneflower) describes how deadheading can extend coneflower bloom and retained seedheads can feed birds.
