About Echinacea 'Flame Thrower'

Echinacea ‘Flame Thrower’ is a reblooming coneflower with two-toned orange and yellow flowers and a fragrant, well-branched habit. Terra Nova lists it for USDA zones 4–9, with foliage height around 36 inches, a 40-inch spread, and flowers reaching about 40 inches; its bloom season runs from June into October ([Terra Nova](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/echinacea-flame-thrower/)). ## Flowers and placement The warm flower colors and repeat bloom make this cultivar useful for a sunny middle border, a parking strip, or a fence line. Its sturdy branching also suits cut-flower use, while the nectar-rich blooms bring pollinators and hummingbirds to the garden. The breeder describes it as one of its earliest coneflowers to bloom in Oregon. ## Growing conditions Give it full sun and average, well-drained garden soil. Allow the soil to dry moderately between waterings; standing wet conditions can cause problems for Echinacea. ## Maintenance Water regularly while establishing, then adjust to rainfall and soil drainage. Remove spent flowers for a tidier display or leave seed heads standing for winter interest. Cut back old stems in late winter or early spring.
