Echinacea 'Fragrant Angel'

Echinacea ‘Fragrant Angel’ is a white-flowered selection of Echinacea purpurea, valued for fragrant petals arranged horizontally around a large yellow cone. Terra Nova lists it for zones 4–9, with a 20-inch foliage height, 24-inch spread, and flowers reaching about 30 inches; the breeder gives July through October as its bloom period ([Terra Nova](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/echinacea-fragrant-angel/)). ## Flowers and placement The bright white rays and warm center stand out in a sunny mixed bed or mass planting, and the stems are suitable for cutting. Terra Nova reports that this cultivar was highly rated among white-flowered coneflowers in the Mt. Cuba Center trials. Its fragrant blooms also attract pollinators and hummingbirds. ## Growing conditions Plant in full sun and average, well-drained soil. The breeder recommends average garden moisture and cautions against keeping Echinacea waterlogged. ## Maintenance Water during establishment and through prolonged dry spells. Deadhead if a neater look is desired; spent stems can remain for winter structure and seed-eating birds. Cut back old foliage in late winter or early spring.
