About PowWow® Wild Berry Coneflower (Echinacea)

PowWow® Wild Berry is a compact seed-grown selection of purple coneflower, sold by PanAmerican Seed under code PAS702917. Its deep rose-purple, 3–4-inch daisies surround orange-brown cones, and the short, branched plants flower in their first year. The flowers retain color as they mature, giving a sunny planting a long stretch of rosy color ([PanAmerican Seed](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/024101714024978/echinacea-powwow-wild-berry/); [All-America Selections](https://all-americaselections.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/AAS_Winner_data_sign_8_x_10_Echinecea_PowWow_Wild_Berry.pdf)). ## Garden Use Use this upright coneflower in a sunny border, a repeated group, or a container where its saturated color can be seen up close. PanAmerican Seed describes the PowWow series as suitable for container and landscape production. The plant flowers repeatedly without requiring deadheading, so spent stems can remain while blooms are still opening ([All-America Selections](https://all-americaselections.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/AAS_Winner_data_sign_8_x_10_Echinecea_PowWow_Wild_Berry.pdf)). ## Growing Conditions Give it full sun and a well-drained bed. The breeder lists a compact 16–20-inch first-year height, with plants reaching 22–24 inches in the second year; its width is about 12–16 inches. A garden trial describes it as a compact seed-grown cultivar with deep pink rays around an orange cone, and reports that mature plants can be somewhat broader ([PanAmerican Seed](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/024101714024978/echinacea-powwow-wild-berry/); [Mt. Cuba Center](https://mtcubacenter.org/trials/echinacea-mid-atlantic-region/echinacea-purpurea-pas702917-powwow-wild-berry/)). ## Maintenance Water new plants while they establish; once settled, this selection is noted for drought tolerance. Leave some flower heads standing if you want to enjoy their form after bloom, or remove them as they fade for a tidier display. The All-America Selections profile notes continuous flowering without deadheading.
