Create design onlineAbout Vintage Wine Coneflower
Vintage Wine is an upright purple coneflower with red-purple ray petals around an orange-brown cone. Its breeder lists flowering stems about 60 cm tall, a 65 cm spread, and hardiness in Zones 3–8 ([Future Plants](https://www.futureplants.com/perennial-varieties/echinacea/echinacea-purp.-vintage-wine)); the RHS describes flowers from summer into autumn and a position in full sun or partial shade ([RHS](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/176980/echinacea-purpurea-vintage-wine/details)).
## In the Garden
The dense, upright clump carries dark green foliage and freely produced flower stems. The cultivar works in mixed borders, containers, and cut-flower displays; its long stems rise above the leaves as the flowers mature.
## Growing Conditions
Choose full sun for the fullest flowering, with partial shade also suitable. Provide well-drained soil and allow the plant room to form a clump. The breeder’s profile places it in Zones 3–8 and notes a faint, sweet flower fragrance.
## Maintenance
Remove spent stems as the display fades to keep the planting tidy. The flower stems also make useful cut flowers, so they can be gathered through the summer and autumn bloom period.
