About SOMBRERO® Baja Burgundy Coneflower

SOMBRERO® Baja Burgundy is a compact hybrid coneflower selected for deep burgundy-red flowers, sturdy branching, and a full summer display, reaching about 18–20 inches tall and 22–24 inches wide. [Ball Seed](https://info.ballseed.com/PlantInfo/?phid=024102187033148) identifies ‘Balsombabur’ and its upright habit, bloom season, and dimensions; [White Flower Farm](https://www.whiteflowerfarm.com/products/echinacea-sombrero-baja-burgundy) describes its deep violet-red flowers and use in borders and cutting gardens. ## Garden use Plant Baja Burgundy where its saturated color can contrast with lighter flowers or green foliage. It suits perennial borders and cut-flower gardens. Coneflower blooms also draw pollinators, while their later seed heads can provide food for birds. ## Growing conditions Choose a sunny site with ordinary, well-drained garden soil. The breeder lists medium water needs and good winter hardiness across zones 4b–9b. Leave enough room for a mature clump about two feet across. ## Maintenance Remove faded flower heads for a tidier appearance or leave some to mature into seed heads. Water regularly while new plants establish; adjust later watering to local rainfall and soil conditions.
