About Pot Black Egg

Pot Black is a compact baby eggplant bred for productive container and patio growing. Its upright plant produces oval, deep-purple Italian-type fruits that can be harvested small, while the compact branching form also fits a sunny in-ground vegetable bed. ## Growing Treat Pot Black as a warm-season annual. Set transplants outdoors after frost danger has passed and the soil is thoroughly warm, in a site with at least six hours of direct sun. Syngenta describes the plant as compact and lists approximate dimensions of 22 inches tall by 18 inches wide. Water consistently so the root zone does not dry sharply between irrigation. ## Harvest Pot Black is listed to mature about 58–62 days from transplant. Its oval baby fruits weigh about 3–4 ounces and have deep-purple skin; they may be picked young or left to develop further. Cut fruits from the plant when they are mature, glossy, and firm. Frequent harvesting lets the plant continue setting flowers and fruit. The fruits suit grilling, roasting, and stir-frying. ## Maintenance Protect the tender plant from frost and cool weather, and use a well-drained container mix if growing in a pot. Harvest with clean shears instead of pulling on the branches.
