Brittlebush

Brittlebush is a rounded, many-branched desert shrub with aromatic stems, silvery leaves, and bright yellow flower heads. In warm, dry regions it often flowers from late winter through spring, while leaf drop and flowering vary with rainfall and local climate. ## Landscape Use Use it in a sunny, dry garden, on rocky slopes, or in a naturalistic planting where its open canopy and seasonal yellow bloom can stand out. Mature plants are commonly about 2–3 ft tall and 2–4 ft wide; vigorous individuals can reach about 5 ft tall. Its flowers are visited by bees and other insects. ## Growing Conditions Choose sandy or rocky soil that drains freely. Brittlebush tolerates drought after establishment, but occasional deep watering can support growth during extended dry periods. Avoid keeping the root zone wet; plants may shed leaves and become dormant during severe drought. ## Maintenance Allow space for the brittle branches, and prune after flowering if shaping is needed.
