About Wasatch Fire Zauschneria

Wasatch Fire is a compact California fuchsia selection with vivid red flowers and foliage that emerges tinged red before turning green. Its spreading habit and small stature suit sunny rock gardens, slopes, and wall edges. ## Garden Use The Theodore Payne Foundation lists this selection at about 1 foot tall and 2 feet wide, with flowers from July through November. Plant it where its cascading stems can soften a rock wall or help cover a dry slope. The flowers provide nectar for hummingbirds and other pollinators; the host plant also supports white-lined sphinx moths. The selection is sold as *Epilobium canum* subsp. *garrettii* 'Wasatch Fire'. The Foundation describes it as low-water once established and associates it with dry slopes and ridges. Its listed dimensions are a useful guide for spacing, while local exposure and watering can affect its spread. ## Maintenance Water during establishment, then reduce irrigation as roots settle in. Remove damaged growth as needed and allow the late-season flowers to finish before cutting back.
