Equisetum hyemale is a vigorous, evergreen perennial known for its striking vertical, bamboo-like stems. This ancient "living fossil" features dark green, jointed stalks that reach three to five feet in height. It thrives in moist to wet soils and can even grow in standing water, making it ideal for ponds or rain gardens. While prized for its architectural form and erosion control, its aggressive rhizomatous growth requires containment. It performs well in full sun to full shade.
