About Lynnhaven Carpet

‘Lynnhaven Carpet’ is a mat-forming selection of Robin’s plantain, chosen for its soft gray-green foliage and compact, spreading cover. Its upright flower stems carry small white to pale lavender daisy flowers in late spring and early summer; the selection was made in Virginia Beach near the Lynnhaven River. [New Moon Nursery](https://newmoonnursery.com/nursery-plants/erigeron-pulchellus-var-pulchellus-lynnhaven-carpet/) lists USDA Zones 3–8 and a mature height of 12–18 inches with an 18–24-inch spread. ## Siting and Seasonal Interest Plant in partial to full shade for a dense, low carpet. It can also grow in sunnier positions when moisture is adequate. The selection adapts to many soils, including sandy, clay, and shallow rocky ground, and its stolons gradually fill open spaces. Use it along paths, between stepping stones, on modest slopes, or as an understory ground cover. ## Maintenance This low-maintenance perennial needs little routine care. Remove spent flower stems when a tidier appearance is desired. Allow room for the stolons, and thin or divide the mat if it grows beyond its allotted area. [New Moon Nursery](https://newmoonnursery.com/nursery-plants/erigeron-pulchellus-var-pulchellus-lynnhaven-carpet/) reports that the selection tolerates drought, heat, and humidity once established.
