About Estrellita Scarlet Firecracker Bush

Estrellita® Scarlet is a compact, upright firecracker bush grown for vivid red to reddish-orange tubular flowers and bright green foliage. Proven Winners lists continuous spring, summer, and fall bloom on a rounded shrub about 18–24 inches tall and wide, suited to borders, low edging, and containers. ## Flowers and placement The long-blooming flowers draw bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Plant in full sun to part sun; afternoon shade can help in hot locations while maintaining good flowering. Its small scale makes it useful near paths or at the front of a mixed border ([Proven Winners](https://www.provenwinners.com/plants/bouvardia/estrellita-scarlet-firecracker-bush-bouvardia-x); [Jackson & Perkins](https://www.jacksonandperkins.com/bouvardia-estrellita-scarlet-firecracker-bush/p/29797/)). ## Soil and water Choose a well-drained site and avoid alkaline soil, which the breeder notes this plant does not tolerate. Water through establishment and during extended dry spells. Keep the root zone from remaining soggy, especially in containers. ## Maintenance The shrub flowers on new wood and does not need deadheading to rebloom. Remove dead or damaged growth as needed, and shape lightly in late winter or early spring if necessary. Follow fertilizer label directions and avoid excessive feeding.
