Emerald Pointe Hardy Rubber Tree

Emerald Pointe™ is a narrowly upright selection of hardy rubber tree, Eucommia ulmoides, with a more compact crown than the species. The selection is sold under the cultivar name ‘Empozam’; Trees and Shrubs Online describes it as an adaptable street tree that may reach about 12 meters tall and 4.5 meters wide. ## Form and foliage The ‘Empozam’ selection is noted for smaller leaves with deeper serrations, wavy margins, and a thicker, more textured surface. Its narrow crown can suit a street or other site where a more compact spread is useful. The [Trees and Shrubs Online account](https://www.treesandshrubsonline.org/articles/eucommia/eucommia-ulmoides/) identifies ‘Empozam’ as Emerald Pointe™ and summarizes its mature form. ## Siting Allow for a large tree at maturity even though this selection is narrower than typical Eucommia ulmoides. The source describes the selection as very hardy and adaptable, but does not give a USDA zone range, so local winter performance should be checked before planting. ## Maintenance Plan for the mature height and keep the trunk and canopy clear of nearby structures as the tree develops. No special pruning schedule is documented for this selection.
