About Emerald N' Gold Wintercreeper

Emerald ’n’ Gold is a compact, variegated form of wintercreeper, Euonymus fortunei. Its green leaves have gold margins, and the low mounding plant can also spread along the ground or climb when given support. ## Foliage and form Monrovia lists this selection at about 2 ft. tall and 5 ft. wide, with evergreen foliage that may turn pinkish red in fall and winter. Creeping stems can root where they touch the ground. The [Monrovia plant profile](https://www.monrovia.com/emerald-n-gold-wintercreeper.html) documents the selection’s name, size, color, and garden uses. North Carolina State Extension’s [Euonymus fortunei profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/euonymus-fortunei/common-name/climbing-euonymus/) lists ‘Emerald ’n’ Gold’ among the species’ cultivars and notes that the species can climb or spread as groundcover. ## Siting Grow in sun to partial shade for a compact, colorful border or low hedge. Provide support if using it as a climber, and leave room for its reported mature spread. Wintercreeper can escape cultivation in some regions, so check local invasive-plant guidance before planting. ## Maintenance Water when the upper soil begins to dry, as Monrovia recommends. Trim to maintain the intended outline and remove unwanted rooted stems where spread needs to be contained.
