About Chicago Fire™ Burning Bush

Chicago Fire™ is the registered trade name for the ‘Timber Creek’ selection of winged euonymus. This dense, rounded shrub carries dark green foliage through summer, then turns bright scarlet to crimson red in autumn; corky wings on the stems add structure after leaf drop. ## Form and seasonal display The [University of Connecticut Plant Database](https://plantdatabase.uconn.edu/detail.php?pid=167) lists ‘Timber Creek’ at 8–10 feet tall and 6–8 feet wide, with multi-stemmed growth and abundant red-orange fruit after the crimson fall color. The [Royal Horticultural Society](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/171497/euonymus-alatus-chicago-fire/details) describes small yellowish summer flowers and pink, four-lobed fruit that opens to show orange seeds. RHS lists sun or partial shade and moist but well-drained soil. ## Siting Use the rounded form as a specimen or in a taller hedge or screen. Full sun helps bring out the strongest fall color, while partial shade is tolerated. Winged euonymus has naturalized in some areas; UConn notes an invasive tendency in Connecticut, so check regional guidance before planting. ## Maintenance Prune only when the shrub outgrows its space or needs structural correction. Selective cuts preserve its natural outline and allow the corky stems to remain visible.
