About Golden Euonymus Shrub

‘Aureomarginatus’ is an evergreen Japanese euonymus selected for leathery green leaves edged in yellow. Its dense, rounded to upright growth and year-round color make it useful where a clipped structure or bright foliage is wanted. ## Garden Use Place it as a hedge, screen, foundation shrub, or specimen. Published mature sizes vary: Boething Treeland Farms lists 8–10 feet tall by 3–6 feet wide, while NC State Extension gives up to 10 feet tall and 8 feet wide. The yellow margins show most clearly in good light, although the shrub also tolerates partial shade. ## Growing Conditions Use well-drained soil and water regularly during establishment and hot weather; the wholesale grower describes lower water needs once established. The foliage may revert on some shoots, so remove solid-green growth if maintaining a strongly variegated look matters. See the [Boething Treeland Farms profile](https://www.boethingtreeland.com/plants/euonymus-japonica-aureo-marginata/) and [NC State Extension’s cultivar notes](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/euonymus-japonicus-aureomarginatus/). ## Maintenance Clip to maintain the desired outline and inspect for euonymus scale. NC State notes that the species can be heavily pruned and is susceptible to scale; remove affected branches and monitor new growth.
