About Variegated Boxleaf Euonymus

Variegated Boxleaf Euonymus is a compact evergreen shrub with small green leaves edged in white. The slow-growing form brings a fine, bright texture to a low border, edging, or a small formal planting. ## Form and Siting Oregon State University describes the closely named ‘Microphyllus Variegatus’ selection as about 2 feet tall, slow growing, and suited to sun. Its foliage is green with white margins, and it rarely flowers. Keep the plant in well-drained soil and allow room for its eventual spread. ## Seasonal Interest The evergreen leaves carry the variegated pattern across the seasons. Remove any shoots that lose the variegation so the green growth does not overtake the patterned foliage. ## Maintenance This small-leaved euonymus generally needs little pruning beyond occasional shaping and removal of reverted shoots. The [Oregon State University Landscape Plants reference](https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/euonymus-japonicus-small-leafed-selections) provides the size, growth, foliage, and USDA hardiness context for the variegated box selection.
