About Cow's horn cactus

Euphorbia grandicornis is a bold, branching succulent shrub whose angular stems zigzag between paired spines shaped like horns. Its sculptural form and small yellow flower clusters make it a strong architectural accent in warm, dry gardens. ([NParks](https://www.nparks.gov.sg/florafaunaweb/flora/6/3/6332), [Buchanan’s Native Plants](https://buchanansplants.com/plant-library/succulents-and-cacti/cows-horn/)) ## Growth and siting The green stems have three or four ridged wings, with fused gray to brown spines along the edges; tiny leaves appear briefly and drop as the stems mature. Yellow cyathia form near the stem tips, followed by purple, three-lobed capsules. Give the plant full sun and a fast-draining site, and protect it from strong winds where stems or spines could be damaged. ## Landscape use Use Cow’s Horn as a stand-alone specimen or in a spacious dry garden where its outline can be appreciated from a safe distance. Its branching structure can also contribute to a protective screen, but allow room for the long spines and avoid placing it beside narrow paths. ## Maintenance Once established, this drought-tolerant euphorbia needs little water and little routine pruning. Wear gloves and eye protection when handling it; the milky sap can irritate skin and eyes.
