Marsh Spurge Plant

Marsh spurge is a clump-forming perennial grown for fresh green foliage, late-spring clusters of chartreuse-yellow bracts, and yellow to orange fall color. It is native to marshland in Europe and western Asia, and its upright stems bring height and a bright seasonal display to moist garden areas. ## Landscape Use Use it in a damp border, rain garden, pond margin, or mass planting where the soil stays moist. Allow room for a broad clump, and combine it with moisture-loving perennials that can share the same conditions. ## Growing Conditions Plant in full sun or partial shade in moist to wet soil; it adapts to several soil types. North Carolina Extension gives a typical height and spread of 2–3 feet, with flowers from late spring into early summer. The bright show is mainly from the surrounding bracts rather than the small flowers themselves. Foliage often turns yellow or orange in autumn, extending interest after flowering. ## Maintenance Keep the root zone moist, especially in sunny positions, and remove only damaged stems after the display.
