Rohan Red Weeping is a compact, cascading beech with dark purple-red leaves that turn copper in autumn. Its distinctive grafted form provides a colorful focal point in a small garden, with branches that can develop into a dense curtain.
## Garden use
The exact selection grows to about 3 m tall and 2.5 m wide. The [Pépinières Rouxel profile](https://www.pepinieres-rouxel.fr/arbre-d-ornement/1209-fagus-sylvatica-rohan-red-weeping.html) describes the compact weeping crown, wavy purple foliage, and marcescent leaves that dry copper and may remain on the branches until new leaves emerge. The [Conifer Kingdom profile](https://www.coniferkingdom.com/fagus-sylvatica-rohan-red-weeping/) identifies the same selection as 'Rohan Red Weeping', distinguishes it from the green-leaved 'Rohan Green Weeping', and gives USDA Zones 4–8. Its ten-year size is about 6 ft by 4 ft.
## Growing conditions
Plant in sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. Beech prefers a cool, temperate site and does not tolerate prolonged drought or waterlogged ground. Allow room for the branches to cascade and avoid planting where the crown will be repeatedly crowded or clipped.
## Maintenance
Water regularly while establishing and during prolonged dry weather. Remove damaged or crossing branches during dormancy if needed to preserve the natural weeping outline.
