About Fescue Beyond Blue™

Beyond Blue™ is the named Festuca glauca selection ‘Casca11’, chosen for compact mounds of powder-blue foliage that holds its color through the growing season. Its tidy evergreen form works at the front of a sunny border, in a rock garden, or in a container where the fine leaves can soften a hard edge. ## Size and siting Plan for a mound about 9–12 inches tall and 18 inches wide. [Southern Living Plants](https://southernlivingplants.com/the-collection/plant/beyond-blue-festuca/) lists full sun, USDA zones 4a–8b, and border, container, groundcover, mass-planting, and slope uses for this selection. [The Conservation Garden Park](https://conservationgardenpark.jvwcd.gov/plants/3089/beyond-blue-fescue) also records its compact blue foliage and recommends brushing out dead leaves in spring. ## Growing conditions Give the clump open space and well-drained soil. Water deeply after planting, then adjust irrigation to local conditions; consistently wet soil can shorten the life of ornamental fescues. The blue color is most vivid in a sunny position. ## Maintenance Southern Living Plants notes that routine pruning is not needed. In late winter or early spring, gently comb or brush away dead blades and remove any damaged seed stems. Divide or replace a clump if its center thins with age.
